OVERVIEW:

Basic Life Support (BLS) is a level of medical care used in emergency i-e, life-threatening situations. It involves securing the proper circulation, airways and breathing of the patient to keep them alive until an ambulance or other medical professional can arrive on the scene. BLS providers can help people who are choking, drowning or are suffering from cardiac arrest, and it can make the difference between life and death.

The content contained herein is based on the most recent ILCOR publications on BLS, closely following AHA 2020 Guidelines.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multi-rescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multi-rescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants

ELIGIBILITY:

Basic Life Support is for all individuals including all physicians and medical students, nurse, first responders other personnel such as firefighters, school teachers, security staff and police officers etc.

COURSE DURATION AND MATERIAL:

  • 5 HOURS.
  • BLS hand book and card is provided before the course.
  • After successful completion of the course, a BLS certificate and a provider card is issued.

VALIDITY:

  • 2 YEARS
