OVERVIEW:

Trauma is the state of body and/or mind after sudden unexpected exposure to a violent shock or a hazard. The world over it is one of the leading causes of death and morbidity. In Pakistan, unfortunately, not much data is collected, compiled, or assessed; however, it is estimated that overall 17.7% of males and 10% of females sustain injuries. Those injured had 2.8% urban and 1.8% rural backgrounds. Training in Trauma care has thus acquired urgent and compelling importance for the healthcare professionals. The completely redesigned Basic Trauma Life Support course is based on new scientific evidence from the latest Guidelines and new teaching methodology. The goal of the BTLS course is to aid the healthcare provider in developing the knowledge and skills necessary to efficiently and effectively manage critical traumatic injuries, resulting in improved outcomes

 

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

  • Importance of the “Golden hour” rule.
  • Understand the principles and concepts of Primary and Secondary assessment
  • Establish management priorities in managing a poly-trauma patient.
  • Acquire the skills necessary in the initial assessment and management of trauma patients
  • General approach to the trauma patient as an individual and as a team.
  • Shock and Head injury management
  • The systematic approach to CNS assessment
  • Effective respiratory, chest, abdominal, and orthopedic management
  • Intraosseous access and fluid bolus administration
  • Effective resuscitation team dynamics.

ELIGIBILITY:

For healthcare professionals such as general physicians, family healthcare providers, nurses, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, respiratory therapists, and other professionals who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, during the pre-emergencies, emergencies out or in the hospital.

VALIDITY:

  • 2 years.
